The design for this large rural property aimed to create manageable garden spaces while preserving the expansive views. We incorporated a cricket-pitch-sized lawn area and larger trees at the entry, primarily utilizing a native plant palette for the remainder of the garden areas.
The design encourages movement through the garden by varying the scale of the lawn areas and using hedging as a guide. In the planting, we employed repetition of plants and a contrast of form and texture to enhance this sense of flow.
Low grasses will contribute to the feeling of vastness, while low hedges, clipped forms, and structural elements will provide transition cues and focal points throughout the landscape.
